Our Only World

Our Only World

Tina Robinson formed Our Only World, a charity based in Cornwall, to try and change attitudes. Their passion is to enable people to better consider the environment whilst enjoying our coastlines and countryside and reduce our fixation with single use plastics to help protect the oceans from the increasing contamination driven by waste plastic products.

Water – we all need it and the wellbeing focus on staying hydrated has meant a massive increase in single use plastic bottles. Observing this fashion, Tina decided to try and encourage local authorities to make it easier for people to refill bottles rather than sending them to landfill, or worse. The authorities reacted very positively to her propositions but the source of supply for attractive, durable, enticing refill stations appeared to be halfway around the globe leaving a massive carbon footprint when they were transported and installed.  Turning to the Southwest Manufacturing Advisory Service Tina sought their help to find a local supply chain and a product design that would help change attitudes without creating another environmental footprint.

Working closely with Redsoul Design, Revmo, M&M Plumbing and Metalwork Solutions a project was created to provide a flexible wall or floor mounting solution that met all regulations, was easy to install, attractive to use, reliable and durable in operation and considered the environment through material choices and logistical carbon footprint.

With Tina passionately leading the team through many twists and turns, disappointments and successes we achieved the goal and have now completed and installed tens of units across southern England. It's Dolphin theme has been met with smiles turning to delight when people realise that recovered recycled fishing net is the material used to create the figurehead moulding.

Metalwork Solutions continue to be delighted to be involved at the forefront of this project with responsibility for fabrication design and manufacture and have been able to involve a network of other smaller local businesses including Noath Precision and BA Powdercoat & Polishing in the production process. The units required considerate use of materials folded to accurate dimensions and precisely welded to provide core strength whilst maintaining a highly cosmetic finish. Easy fit out, installation and serviceability were also prime considerations of the design and manufacturing process.

Adrian Sewell, Managing Director at MSL comments “working with people as passionate as Tina and her charity is an absolute delight and we are so glad the team here could help her to overcome a multitude of obstacles and setbacks to realise her vision. The network of suppliers in place helps demonstrate the strength of southwest manufacturing and we are really lucky to be part of such a strong team”.
