Constantly challenged to reduce manufacturing cycle times and eliminate waste the MSL & DASL team have been very focused on becoming better organised through implementation of 5S principles across the business.

Its amazing how many hand tools are required to manufacture and assemble product and as the portfolio of work keeps expanding, and the team has been growing, tool management started to become a real issue.

5S gives us a methodological approach of Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise & Sustain and the team have embraced this culture across all aspects of the workplace.  A multitude of projects have been identified and executed and there is a real tide of progressive change that is beginning to reap real rewards for the team.  Each step produces an increasing number of ideas for identifying, organising, colour coding, presenting.

With most projects it is important that the “what’s in it for me” element is answered positively and the enthusiasm of the team here to “get 5S done” shows how much organisation is paying off by reducing lost time and managing stress.
